Game Based Learning
Game based learning can deliver numerous benefits, communication, behavioral change, strategic thinking, decision making, memory, adaptation, coordination, inclusion and improved attention span. When you compare the above to organisational communication methods like PowerPoint, conferences or Town Hall sessions you can quickly realise the benefits that gaming technologies can deliver.
The greatest strength of an effective outcome to game-based learning is the ability to quickly change the content to allow customisation of the learning experience that can easily be adapted to different business requirements.
This type of architecture allows the user to become involved, take part and act, rather than just listening, taking notes and doing as they are directed.
How many times do you remember being told - The best way of learning something is by doing it.
Game based learning solutions require students to communicate, think quickly and use logic in order to solve problems or reinforce messages and behaviour.
Games follow a narrative that allows the user to immerse themselves in a context in order to solve a problem, or achieve an outcome. By correcting certain behaviors and repeating certain habits, users end up memorising, almost unconsciously, those behaviors that help them solve the game, move forward, get feedback etc.
I have two children, one is 21 and the other is 8, gaming has always been a part of their life, as I have said before the technology available at home - XBox, IPad, Netflix etc. is far more advanced from a user experience perspective than any corporate IT service. My eldest works for a global accounting organisation and was 'disappointed' when introduced to the internal systems within his new place of work, my youngest who's generation is based upon total choice would be horrified at the average corporate user experience.
Our world is becoming more and more reliant on technology. Governments are changing the face of education to deliver coding as a key subject. I think the next two years will see a major change in the way that game based learning / communication is delivered in global organisations. Having the ability to change content, outcomes and bringing teams together to collaborate, make decisions and successfully deliver change can be all driven via gaming technologies, without major expense - travel, workshop facilitation, hotels, etc.
The combination of physical and mental inclusion to solve a problem whilst enjoying the experience via a game based architecture will result in game based learning becoming mainstream, improving users attention span, communication skills, motivational behaviour, social skills - whilst delivering higher engagement and improved productivity for the organisation.
Hopefully this will all exist before my 8 year old starts work, otherwise he too will be disappointed!

Essential Facts about the Gaming Industry 2014 Here are a number of extracts from the report below, which I have been researching in my quest to fully understand the Gaming industry and more importantly, how we might utilise Games and the vast Gaming community to address real world / business / education / political problems or issues. And in the process still retain the Gaming experience, which is key as participating in Gaming is voluntary and enjoyable - which is not always true of our 'real world' experiences. Essential Facts - The ESA - 2014 “ Our industry has a remarkable upward trajectory. Computer and video games are a form of entertainment enjoyed by a diverse, worldwide consumer base that demonstrates immense energy and enthusiasm for games.
