A brief note from the ICO:
GDPR will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.
The ICO is committed to assisting businesses and public bodies to prepare to meet the requirements of the GDPR ahead of May 2018 and beyond. We acknowledge that there may still be questions about how the GDPR would apply in the UK on leaving the EU, but this should not distract from the important task of compliance with the GDPR.
With so many businesses and services operating across borders, international consistency around data protection laws and rights is crucial both to businesses and organisations, and to individuals. The ICO’s role has always involved working closely with regulators in other countries, and that will continue to be the case. Having clear laws with safeguards in place is more important than ever given the growing digital economy, and we will work with government to stay at the centre of these conversations about the long term future of UK data protection law and to provide our advice and counsel where appropriate.

GDPR is a 'dry' subject, there is no getting away from that fact, however the fines for non-compliance are hefty and there have already been a number of profile cases highlighted by the ICO for data abuse! On 25th May 2018 all organisations will have to adhere to GDPR across all departments.
The task of educating an organisations workforce on such a 'dry' subject will prove challenging - certain departments are far more open to non-compliance, HR and Marketing quickly spring to mind.

BYOD, Games and Employee Engagement It has been a while since my last Post, for that I apologise.....I am busy trying to assist a number of start-ups find their feet! Following on from my last Post, which will now be out-of-date.......as is the way for any quoted statistics. I wonder how much thought employers, especially C level employers give to the gaming industry? Do they realise just how many of their current employees spend playing multiplayer online games, and more importantly the level of engagement that is achieved that does not exist or that they do not bring into the working environment? I wonder if they realise the demographics of the gaming community and how this has changed, no longer is the community adolescent boys hidden away in bedrooms, but a thriving community spanning all ages and both sexes.
