GDPR - Suite of Game Based Learning Experiences

GDPR - General Data Protection Regulation Information Commissioners Office  this is a link to the ICO, they have published a wealth of information in relation to GDPR. A brief note from the ICO: GDPR will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR. Mental Health Prevention & Innovation Workshop

West Midlands Academic Health Science Network Applio was invited to a Mental Health Prevention & Innovation Workshop on 16th May 2017 at ICentrum  Birmingham - which is a really cool venue. Sounds like a political broadcast.............. Anyway to get to the point, Applio is going to look and work with the consortium that is trying to change the way we address Mental Health and I hop...

Once upon a time, many, many years ago.......... Once upon a time, many, many years ago..........in every culture upon the planet, humans have used storytelling as an effective means of passing information from one generation to the next. Why? Stories connect with our emotional and inquisitive side, if told well, they hold your attention and imagination. Most of us have had the pleasure of telling 'made-up' fictional stories to children at bedtime, seeing the calm, inquisitive and totally engrossed body language, when normally the child only operates at 100 miles per hour! Stories are the oldest form of learning & development, due to the emotional connection that stories trigger, retention of information vastly increases. In the modern world this form of interaction is reflected in numerous forms - Films, Books, TV, Social Interactions, Games etc. and more importantly still covers all ages and cultures. Do we use storytelling in the modern business environmen...
Video play: University turns the science of microeconomics into a great game Playconomics , the game in question, debuted July 2014 as a side project. In 2015 it was used to deliver an introductory microeconomics course in three universities  to more than 4000 students. "It was the first gamified course in economics ever created, worldwide," Motta said. "And the game was a hit. We observed a 10 per cent increase in enrolment in semester one, 2015, and a staggering 35 per cent increase in semester two, probably due to the word-of-mouth generated in semester one." http://www.smh.com.au/technology/innovation/video-play-university-turns-the-science-of-microeconomics-into-a-great-game-20160216-gmv4ca.html The interesting part of this game / university is the research, it provides / provokes some interesting discussions.  http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0883035514000810 NB: There is a cost for the research document.

The Main Point: There is a lot of data freely available that details the high-level statistics in relation to change programme failures: 70% - average failure rate of major transformation programs 39% - failure rate aligned to employee resistance 63% - success rate in programs that focus heavily on positive communications 70% - success rate in programs that focus on employee enga...
Northumbrian Water - Game Design Competition Here is an introduction from James Robbins - Northumbrian Water Chief Information Officer. Here at Applio we recently entered the Northumbrian Water Game Design Competition, which has been an interesting experience. It is always nice to see an initiative within a large corporation that mirrors some of the work that your organisation has been developing over the past 18+ months! The Serious Games marketplace is currently growing at a significant rate within the UK, although in my opinion there are is some product segmentation occurring: Gamification Simulation Bespoke Serious Games / Apps All of the above can be deployed to good effect, these solutions are deployed in the corporate world with decisions based upon the ROI and usability of the solution.  Gamification is not that expensive and is used to gamify an existing business process - using leader boards, points, awards etc to engage the user ba...
